I've stuck to the "universal" colours for skills, ie:
Blue = Block, Dodge = Yellow, Guard = Green, Tackle = Orange, and Wrestle = White.
The remaining are what I've seen most others use and obvious choices.

Yes, there are professional skill markers sold online, but not everyone can afford them. Loom bands are cheap, found easily online and in stores and stack well on a mini.
